Re: Discussion Topic: Current Objectives for Collectors?

Hi,

I reckon I may be coming from a fairly different place to most of the seasoned collectors here . I have been collecting at an ever increasing rate over the last 2/3 years as I find more and more watches that I like, particularly Heuers!

My problem is that at 29, I have the typical financial burdens that means funds for watches are somewhat limited, as a young family, mortgage etc take priority, my only justification for spending £££'s on watches is that to me it's more enjoyable than money in the bank, and it's not like its being blown on large finance on a new motor that depreciates.

That said I think there will come a point where the watches reach a price whereby I cannot justify it, so it's a race against time to get what I want!

My taste is fairly broad and basically my main reason for buying any watch is aesthetics, it has to look good on my wrist first and foremost, I am not too fussed on having each variant in a particular model , I would just like a nice collection of various watches that pretty much all get worn.

All the best

: After seeing Mark mention that he is buying relatively few
: watches recently, and juxtaposing this with a series of messages
: from Arno seeking to buy Carreras and now a message from Alex
: seeking to buy automatic Autavias, it seems like it might be
: interesting to ask our readers where they now stand in their
: current objectives / collecting careers. We have also seen
: Thomas sell the Milou collection and Brook exchange a load of
: Carreras for a beautiful Oldsmobile 442.

: So what are the current objectives / long-term plans of our
: readers? Some points for discussion: Are you expanding or
: consolidating? If you are consolidating, will you be paying
: some bills, buying a car or investing in some other class of
: assets? Are those of you who have consolidated recently missing
: your watches or even nibbling at a few new ones? Perhaps some of
: our WTB readers (like Arno and Alex, or others) or others who
: are expanding their collections can tell us about their plans?
: Replenishing collections, focusing on under-valued models or
: stockpiling for a big sale? Any new ideas about your “exit
: strategy”? Let’s get some discussion of this topic, then we
: can look at the Next Discussion Topic: What role does eBay play
: for you, as a buyer or as a seller? How has this role shifted
: over time? What markets are you using in place of eBay? But
: let’s address the first question first – about your current
: objectives – and then we can discuss eBay.

: Jeff
